Details
The Condohotel is situated in a prime lake front location overlooking the Blue Canyon Golf Club. Currently the hotel is derelict following the Asian crash of 1997 and is in need of total refurbishment. The current owners plan was to completely renovate the existing structure and to develop a five star hotel with 100 rooms and suites. The project would be aimed primarily at the golf and spa market with particular emphasis on marketing to Japan, South Korea and Scandinavia. These countries have high golfing populations and an extremely strong tourist market in Thailand and research has shown that there is great interest from these individual countries to invest in condohotels. All room bays are 50 square metres which will allow for superior rooms in keeping with current expectations for a 5 star hotel. From a design point of view the current balustrades on the balconies would be removed and replaced with balustrades that afford spectacular views over the lake to the golf course. The entire roof of the top floor facing the lake would be converted to a specialty Japanese restaurant and the roof above. The building has been assessed by Halcrow the international engineering firm and found to be structurally sound. Blue Canyon leaped to fame when it was selected as the venue for the 1994 and 1998 Johnnie Walker Classic, won by a young Tiger Woods and more recently for the 2007 competition, since then it has been recognized as a world championship golf course and constantly ranks as Thailand’s number one golf club.
Often considered one of the best layouts in Asia, The Blue Canyon, Canyon Course is the jewel of Phuket golf (there is also an equally challenging Lakes course). Blue Canyon also has an excellent club house, with 3 gourmet restaurants.
